Have you ever pursued something that you’re not only good at doing, but you KNOW you’re supposed to be doing?
For me, it’s writing, and I get a happy buzz (most times, not during deadlines) when I’m creating something I love.
I know I’m fortunate enough to be aligned with my purpose, but many people haven’t yet discovered. So how does one do this? I’m going to tell you a secret. Lean closer. No, come here. A little closer.
Figure out what makes you happy. Many times we gravitate towards what we are good at, not what we love. It makes sense. Some of us don’t have the luxury to try different things because…BILLS. Amirite? However, I am of the belief that God doesn’t put things in your heart unless he wants you to pursue it. Maybe you’re a marketer, but you want to build things with your hands? Or perhaps you’re in sales, but you really want to cook for a living? Or eat.J
In order to figure out what you want to do another major key is to be quiet. Yes, be still.
Being quiet can result in meditating, going into a quiet room, a walk outside, or reading a book about self-reflection. Do what triggers you to go deep into yourself and tap into what makes you, you.
The next step is opposite of reflection, you need to surround yourself with successful people. I’m not suggesting that you drop your friends that are “works in progress,” to be honest we all are. However, being around friends that either know their potential, are genuinely happy and living their best lives can serve as motivation. Additionally, happy or prosperous people can have an impact on your mood, how you react to situations and your overall mindset. Birds of a feather flock together so choose wisely.
Finally, when you have found your soul’s purpose – and yes it’s that deep—pursue the hell out of it. Go hard in the paint. Don’t be all shy and tentative, don’t second guess yourself. If it’s a skill set you don’t have—work on it, find a mentor and then master it. You don’t have to have it all figured out yet, but you have to take that first step. Have you started the journey yet?
